BLT Pizza with White Sauce






What You'll Need


  • tow garlic cloves, grated
  • foor center-cut bacon slices
  • 10 ounce fresh pizza dough
  • one tablespoon cornmeal
  • tow ounces part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Cooking spray
  • one cup baby arugula
  • one pound ripe tomatoes, seeded and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
  • one teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup canola mayonnaise
  • one tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • one tablespoon minced fresh chives

How to Make It


  1. Place a pizza stone on bottom oven rack.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°.
  3. Arrange tomato slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet; sprinkle with oregano and pepper.
  4. Place baking sheet directly on pizza stone.
  5. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until tomatoes are no longer wet.
  6. Remove tomatoes; keep stone in oven.
  7. Increase oven temperature to 500°.
  8. Combine mayonnaise, oil, chives, and garlic in a small bowl.
  9. Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp; drain on paper towels.
  10. Break into pieces.
  11. Using well-floured hands, pat dough into a 10-inch circle.
  12. Place dough on a pizza peel or baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal.
  13. Pierce dough with a fork; transfer to preheated pizza stone.
  14. Bake at 500° for 5 minutes.
  15. Carefully remove pizza stone from oven.
  16. Brush mayonnaise mixture over crust, leaving a 1-inch border; top with tomatoes and bacon.
  17. Top with cheese; coat crust edge with cooking spray.
  18. Bake 10 minutes or until cheese melts and crust browns.
  19. Top with arugula.
  20. Cut into 8 slices.
